The cupcakes are delicious! My favorite is the raspberry jam with raspberry frosting. This frosting is light and tasty. I also tried the chocolate mint, chocolate espresso/mocha, and Chantilly. All tasted great! The gluten free options are just as good, especially the carrot cake. This is a nice little neighborhood bakery well worth supporting.
Ok, first, I neglected to get a good picture of the amazing german chocolate cake that my wife (who does not care for german chocolate cake) said, "this cake is amazing"; the photo is of her going in for her second piece! My 70 year old mother requested for her birthday agreed the cake was amazing. When I ordered the cake the owner Marilyn said it was the best in town. From the rave reviews of my family, I have to agree. My wife said Piece of Cake will now be our official go to for her favorite chocolate cake! I would be remiss if I did not give kudos to the prompt service. Sent an email inquiry Thursday night for cake by Saturday afternoon. Got response via text from Marilyn in minutes! Not the least expensive, but worth every penny. Oh, and the Red Velvet cupcakes on the side, WOW!! The word succulent comes to mind, although sounds like meat. Well, they were so juicy and soft and moist and, my goodness: succulent!
This was such a disappointment. I paid $200+ for a round cake that come so plain I’m not sure what I was paying for. The cake was for a baby shower and the owner had me purchase my own cake toppers (which we then had to place on ourselves) and zero writing on the cake. When we arrived and saw a plain, white frosted cake we asked them to at least write out the babies initial on the cake which was done so fast it wasn’t even centered. I could have gone to Walmart and purchased the same cake and saved myself $150. Will never return or use this bakery again.
Piece of cake is fantastic. They made a wonderful gluten free carrot cake for my wedding 5 years ago, and I go back almost every year for a small version of the same cake on my anniversary. The gluten free option is delicious, no one could tell it was gluten free! Thanks again to the owner and staff. Don’t ever change!
The absolute best bakery in town! These folks are the kindest, best bakers I've ever met. I came to them with a very specific idea for my daughter's birthday. See picture :) They went above and beyond to the point where the cake outshined her presents. The cake was delicious and gorgeous. I spent nearly 30 mins. on the phone with the owner because she wanted to make sure I got exactly what I was looking for. I did and more! I will come here for years to come and tell everyone I can that this is the absolute best bakery in town!!!
I ordered online on Uber eats and made a special request for my friends last minute surprise cupcake. I didn’t think they would actually do it but thank you ! I also ordered an espresso cake slice which tasted amazing.
I wanted to support this weird, old school Portland bakery and they had so many creative cakes on their website, I was excited to order here. I spent half an hour sitting with the owner, ordering this cake and did not get what I wanted. The owner asked the occasion and I said it was my friend’s 40th birthday. She immediately got on her phone and started shopping for cake toppers, which I never asked for. She sent one with sparky crystals and told me I needed to order it right away. She never asked what I envisioned for the cake but I went along with it, thinking she has won all these awards, so she knows what she’s doing. I ordered the topper, and had it sent to the bakery. She asked what flavor I wanted and I asked if she had FunFetti, which she did not. She said, “maybe your friend just wants sprinkles” and called her employee over to show me all their pink sprinkles. I told her I wanted a mixture of different sized sprinkles and especially liked the large round sprinkles. I knew I wasn’t going to get the unique cake I wanted but figured if it had all these sprinkles on the sides, it would be something nice to look at. I asked her to write the greeting on top of the cake, specifically, as she had proposed to do it on the cardboard, which I didn’t want. I had a nice time chatting with the owner, but she is bulldozer and didn’t really listen to, or ask, what I wanted. I should have spoken up, but I kept thinking about all the good reviews and figured she’s just eccentric and she’s gonna end up making something cool. Nope. She embedded the topper into the cake (gross), didn’t write on the cake, and there were sparse sprinkles. A single layer cake was $125, and I spent $9 on the topper and I also tipped them. It’s a lot of money to spend to walk out with a cake that is boring, not what we agreed on, and not at all what I wanted. I did text her to let her know I was disappointed, but didn’t hear back. I also let the staff know but they didn’t say anything in response. In addition to the unimpressive design, the cake was dry. I tried slices of cake there last year and they were also very dry (their cake counter faces the sun and I think it impacts the cakes). I thought the place was cool and weird and I have been waiting for an occasion to buy a whole cake and give them another chance. I won’t be returning or recommending.
Just received this order of cupcakes via Uber eats for my wife and at first glance you say to yourself they look pretty good. Then when you look at them a little closer you notice some things...a couple of the cupcake wrappers are partially or completely off from the cupcakes, the icing is hard like they were not fresh and on the top of one of the cupcakes it looks like there was something there that was removed.
I called the bakery and expressed my concerns and disappointment but was met with only excuses and and a half hearted apology with no attempt to rectify the situation.
Having had plenty of delicious vegan cupcakes in town, I'll definitely never recommend this bakery to anyone whether they are vegan or not.
